Both Victorias City led by Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez and Sipalay City headed by Mayor Maria Gina Lizares recently signed agreements with MMDC officials for the scholarships to take effect beginning the first term of School Year 2023-2024 which starts on August 22, 2023.

The Victorias City LGU will provide full-ride scholarships to 20 learners. While LGU employees will be prioritized, non-employees will be considered if not all slots have been filled. An additional 5 full-ride scholarships will also be given to the mayor’s staff but if slots are still available, they will be made available to other LGU employees as well.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to promoting education and fostering innovation in our community,” said Mayor Benitez. “In the city of Victorias, we have invested in education and in our IT projects. We are entering into this partnership with Mapúa Malayan Digital College to provide our people access, quality, and lifelong learning.”

As part of the Sustainable Growth through Education-Employment-Entrepreneurship Program, the partnership with Mapúa Malayan Digital College is a key component of the Sipalay City government’s program to enhance education quality, reduce poverty, and foster economic development in the area. Through this program, the City of Sipalay will grant full-ride scholarships to 10 residents. An additional five slots will also be made available exclusively for LGU employees.

“This scholarship signals a new era for education in Sipalay City, where more learners can reap the benefits of higher learning. The city government hopes that through this partnership with MMDC, more impactful initiatives will arise and further the development of the city and the Sipalaynons.”

Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares signs the Memorandum of Agreement to provide scholarships to Sipalay City LGU employees and residents.

The Sipalay City scholarship program is made possible by the Gender and Development Fund, which aims to provide Sipalaynons financial support to earn their college degrees while bridging employment and support to start-up businesses.

“A college education has the potential to unlock opportunities for learners to build future-proof careers. We’re very excited to enter these partnerships with the Victorias and Sipalay City LGUs this year to make education more accessible for more learners in Negros Occidental,” said Jenny Chua, Vice President of Marketing and Admissions, MMDC. “With these developments happening alongside the renewal of our partnership with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, MMDC continues to work with local governments to cultivate a skilled workforce ready to take on the professional demands that come with the continued development of Negros Occidental as a hub for the IT, BPO, and other digital industries.”
