What the Coursera-MMDC case study found

The case study examines how Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC) students turn Coursera certification programs into career progress, across both the BS Information Technology and BS Business Administration programs. They reported that the learners are putting their new skills to work right away, from prompt engineering to portfolio building, using them to land jobs, advance at work, and prepare for interviews.

• Learners taking AI courses, like AI Fundamentals, reported new jobs, final-stage interviews, and increased employer interest.
• One learner was promoted from coordinator to executive-level assistant.
• Over 100 advising touchpoints showed stronger learner confidence, more targeted job searches, and better interview readiness.

Noel Torregoza, Instructional System Design Director at MMDC, says these results reflect the credibility the credentials carry. “What micro-credentials do is give our learners a legitimacy signal behind the capabilities that we’re able to develop,” he said. “We have branded certifications from IBM, Google, and Meta that are globally recognizable, and all of these are available to our enrollees at MMDC through Coursera. Many of them are also embedded in their programs, so they won’t spend additional time trying to acquire these certifications.”
